Gitanes dancing is a traditional carnival dance with greater presence in the Catalonian regions of Vallès Oriental and Occidental. In Ruby dancing has moved to being a dance festival not only to witness but also to live it.

The Ball de Gitanes was a real party that since its origin among the Gypsies who were celebrating their wedding before joining the popular heritage of our people, experienced many vicissitudes. He incorporated music and characters, helped to organize contests and still is the most festive document of the Catalan tradition dance. In Rubi Gitanes danced before the foundation of Esbart in 1923 and are reflected in the festival program since 1927; but it is from the choreographic version created by Albert Sans, in 1970, when the Ball Gitanes of Ruby acquires a new artistic personality and wider dissemination, together with a large popular grip on the city, which is identified with this dance to make it representative.

In 2007 Ruby celebrated 80 years of interpretation of this dance, 37 of its scenic recreation and 25 since the ruby citizens wanted to return to the streets each year during the festival. Full video of the staging of the Dance.
