The current name according to historians comes from the name Rivo Rubeo, it has been found in some Roman ruins. This Latin name would be translated as referring to laugh red clay the Rubí dragged by its banks.
The city is of Roman origin, as evidenced by the many amphorae found on its territory. The belief about the origin of the name comes from his laugh, old Rubeo river for the Romans. The oldest written documents citing Ruby is from the year 986.

Ruby the festival weekend held closest to June 29, the day of San Pedro patron of the city.
